Shelley Wilson

Brighton based illustrator Shelley Wilson draws upon her interest in Natural History, in particular wolves and all things wild to create pen and ink drawings and three dimensional artworks.

Trained with an HND in Natural History Illustration and a Ba(hons) in Illustration Shelley has enjoyed substantial experience of professional commissions sometimes involving wolf taming and dinosaur decorating.

Recently her work has focused on painting found objects which are influenced by textile design, the natural world, Egyptian Sarcophagi, the Jurassic era and traditional tattoo art.

“I have loved spending the past five years being a mother to a very bright and brilliant daughter while finding my illustrative voice. I have always been drawn towards all things wolfy, I find the experience of drawing fur particularly meditative and find the wolf provides a great metaphor for the chiaroscuro of life. I am also currently undertaking an Ma in Sequential Design/Illustration where I am exploring my personal narrative of growing up with a schizophrenic mother and creating a resource for young children who have experienced something similar.”
